The "capitol of the wolds" has been market town since the 8th. century. Overlooking the town is the church of St. James; its Gothic spire stands 295 feet high. The Grammar School has educated famous men such as Alfred Lord Tennyson born in Somersby, Captain John Smith, founder of Virginia, USA, and Sir John Franklin born in Spilsby. |
